InfoFelix Alvarado was born in Orange Grove, Texas. He comes from a family of fourteen brothers and sisters, eleven of whom survive. The son of migrant workers, he left school at age 18 to join the Army.

During Felix Alvarado?s diverse and varied 28-year military career he distinguished himself in all three branches of the military. In the Navy Reserve he learned the value of discipline to the success of the unit. In the Army his experiences included Operations, Training and Personnel. He was assigned to the Personnel Management Division at Headquarters, United States Army Vietnam. In this capacity he was responsible for reviewing applications for the early departure of personnel from Vietnam. He was also responsible for reviewing Army promotion policies.

Felix Alvarado?s first Air Force assignment was as an Avionics Technician. From there he worked his way up through the ranks to Aircraft Maintenance Superintendent. His proven ability to assume greater responsibilities resulted in assignment to the Office of Inspector General for the Military Airlift Command. In this role he traveled throughout the world evaluating Air Force units and their leadership. Later, while working in the Directorate of Logistics, his bilingual skills were extremely valuable during negotiations with European nations for use of land, facilities, and equipment.

Felix Alvarado?s last military assignment, Aircraft Maintenance Superintendent in the 96th Organizational Maintenance Squadron, involved responsibility for 226 personnel and all specialized maintenance for 31 B1B aircraft valued at $6.2 billion. His innovative maintenance planning and leadership resulted in significant increases in the numbers of aircraft available for operational and training missions.

After retiring from the military, Felix Alvarado returned to college for certification as a social studies teacher and as an administrator. He was recently promoted to Assistant Principal at William James Middle School. Felix Alvarado is proud to have taught nine years with the exemplary faculty of Trimble Technical High School. Trimble Tech, an inner city school with a student population consisting of over ninety-five percent minorities, is the only FWISD high school to be rated Recognized and Exemplary by the Texas Education Association in the TAAS test.

Now more than ten years out of the Air Force, a father to six and an educator, Felix Alvarado seeks the opportunity to help preserve the way of life he protected and defended as a military man. He brings the same commitment to the candidacy. He is willing to endure the long hours in the trenches fighting for beliefs? beliefs in education, equality of opportunity, freedom, and the United States of America.

It has been a long journey for a little boy born in a rural town in south Texas. His life?s accomplishments reflect the American spirit of a strong work ethic and determination. Felix Alvarado?s broad range of experience and leadership makes him uniquely qualified to represent the residents of District 12 in Congress.
