Chairman of the John Merck Fund, a charitable foundation. He served sixteen years in the Massachusetts state legislature, seven years as the House Minority Leader. The author of the Hatch Act, the nation’s first fresh wetlands protection legislation, Mr. Hatch was the Republican candidate for Governor of Massachusetts in 1978. Mr. Hatch is the former chairman of the Conservation Law Foundation, and honorary board member of the Natural Resources Defense Council and Maine Coast Heritage Trust. He currently serves on the boards of directors of the Northeast Historic Film and Holbrook Island.
