Info | French Representative at the National Assembly from 1893 to 1915.
Supporter of french revolutionary activist Blanqui, Vaillant took part at the "Commune de Paris" in 1871, and becomes one of the seven members of the executive commission of the "Commune". After his exile to escape the repression that targeted the "Commune", he defended the "Commune" at the National Assembly when he was elected.
Member of the Socialist International, he took part at the Congress of London in 1871 and the Hague in 1872.
He took position in favour of Dreyfus in the Dreyfus Affair.
Hostile to the alliance between France and Russia, he was one of the harshest opponent to World War I, and took position of a general strike to prevent it. Affected by Jaures shooting in 1914, he spent the last year of his life to "fight german imperialism, refusing to fight the german people". His new position will make him a target of the pacifist minority within the socialist ranks.
