Info | Tom moved to Great Falls in 1989 at the age of 22 as a flight instructor and commercial pilot for Holman Aviation. His experience as a pilot taught him the importance of paying attention to detail and thorough planning. He quickly found a love for the beauty of our state from unique perspective high above our mountains and plains. As your Representative, Tom will work to build local businesses like Holman Aviation and work to protect Montana’s natural beauty.
To spend more time with his two young children, Tanner and Rachael, Tom took a position administering group homes for Gateway Recovery Center, an alcohol and drug treatment center in Great Falls. He learned an appreciation and respect for people from all socioeconomic backgrounds. It was important to provide opportunities for everyone to succeed through hard work and accountability.
Tom worked briefly in Cheyenne, Wyoming for the University of Wyoming as an outside evaluator of substance abuse treatment and prevention programs administered by the State Department of Health and Human Services. He was responsible for evaluating the success of these programs and the effective use of state and federal funds. Tom would use this experience in Helena to ask the tough questions of department administrators and ensure the effective and efficient use of taxpayer dollars.
For the past eight years, Tom has been the Executive Director of Rural Dynamics, Inc., a statewide organization focusing on developing the economic security of Montana’s working class citizens. Based in Great Falls, RDI provides programs that help families earn, keep, and grow their finances. Tom has spent considerable time at the legislature during his tenure advocating for Montana families to ensure their interests are represented. As your representative, Tom would utilize his experience to advocate for Montana families, the community, and members of his district.
Tom earned his Bachelor’s degree in Business Management at the University of Great Falls in 2001 with a 4.0 grade point average. He went on to graduate with honors from the University of Wyoming earning a Master’s Degree in Public Administration. He has volunteered on several local and state boards including the United Way of Cascade County, NeighborWorks Montana, the Montana Budget and Policy Center, the Montana Nonprofit Association, and the Alliance for Youth. Tom has also taught public finance at the University of Great Falls graduate school.
His son Tanner is currently a student at the University of Montana and his daughter Rachael is a junior at C.M. Russell High School in Great Falls.
