InfoBorn and raised in Davenport and a former elected Representative from rural Hamilton County, George Eichhorn is a common sense conservative running for the United States Senate.

As one of six children, George learned early from his parents Erwin and Jean about the importance of family and hard work. George’s father was a machine operator at Rock Island Arsenal and his mother worked in the office of a local food broker.

He was taught about the importance of a good education and as a result George graduated from Davenport Central High School, Drake University with honors and then Drake University Law School.

While earning his degree George also earned a living working summer jobs at Ralston Purina, Wonder Bread Bakery and doing street construction. After earning his degree in law, George immediately put his skills to work with a law firm in Des Moines.

George then started and successfully operated his own small business as an attorney in Des Moines and again later in Stratford.

In addition, George served as the city attorney in Stratford and as the lead partner in a Des Moines law practice. He has also been the corporate attorney for a large farm implement and construction equipment dealer headquartered in Grand Junction and employing hundreds of citizens throughout Iowa and he assisted in establishing the legal department for another major Iowa company.

George Eichhorn has been a leader in the practice of law with memberships on the Information Security Committee and E Privacy Committees of the American Bar Association, as a member of the Law Department Management Committee of the Association of Corporate Counsel, and as the Chairman in 2007 of the Corporate Council Section of the Iowa State Bar Association. He is admitted for practice in the Supreme Court of the United States, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit and the U.S. District Courts in both the Northern and Southern District of Iowa.

A true strict constructionist, George Eichhorn is well studied in constitutional law having actually co-authored the chapter on the Iowa Constitution for the Iowa Legal Research Guide.

For three terms George Eichhorn was elected and re-elected to serve the citizens of his district in the Iowa House of Representatives.

In the House, he served as a member of the Government Oversight, Judiciary, Public Safety and Ways and Means committees. A strong Republican with a conservative voting record, George was known as a legislator who could work across party lines and across the aisle to get things accomplished for the people of Iowa.

As a member of the Government Oversight Committee George took a lead in investigating the CIETC scandal which uncovered the misuse of federal funds sent to Iowa for the Central Iowa Employment and Training Consortium. As a result, he was a primary author of legislation to restore fiscal accountability in Iowa state government.

Noted for his leadership by his fellow legislators, George was elected to be the Chairman of the Iowa Joint House/Senate Administrative Rules Review Committee.

George Eichhorn is respected for his views on issues relating to health care. He was chosen to participate in the Health Promotion Policy Institute by the National Conference of State Legislators, to be part of the American Legislative Exchange Council’s Health Care Academy and to be part of the Iowa Legislature’s Interim Committee on Health Care Affordability in Iowa.

For his work George has been the recipient of numerous awards including being named Legislator of the Year by a children and families coalition and he has earned a state award for community service.

George married Shelly, the daughter of Raymond and Dixie Lee Sheets of Perry, Iowa, 20 years ago in Des Moines. They currently reside just outside Stratford, IA.
