Info | The Hon. Desmond Bannister, Member of Parliament (M.P) for the Carmichael Constituency was sworn in as Minister of State in the Ministry of Legal Affairs by His Excellency the Hon. Arthur D. Hanna Governor-General on May 07, 2007, following the May 2, general elections.
Mr. Bannister, who is also the national chairman of the Free National Movement (FNM), was born on October 28, 1958.
Upon completion of his early education in The Bahamas Mr. Bannister obtained a Bachelor’s degree form Grinnell College, Iowa. He continued studies at the University of the West Indies (UWI), Cave Hill, Barbados where he obtained an LL.B degree and went on to complete his Legal Education Certificate at the Norman Manley Law School in Kingston, Jamaica. He was called to The Bahamas Bar in 1988.
Mr Bannister served as Crown Counsel in the Office of the Attorney General between 1988 and 1991 when he joined the law offices of Evans & Co. He is presently a senior partner at the firm.
He has been engaged as a part-time lecturer for The Bahamas Bar at The Bahamas Institute of Bankers and at the College of The Bahamas (COB) and has served as Acting Stipendiary & Circuit Magistrate.
A sports enthusiast, he was elected president of The Bahamas Association of Athletic Associations (BAAA) in December, 1999.
He served as a FNM Senator in May 2002.
He is the father of two children Dominique and Danielle and a divorcee.
