Info | Janko Peric was first elected to the House of Commons in 1993. He was re-elected in 1997 and 2000. Mr. Peric is seeking to return to federal politics as the Member of Parliament for Cambridge.
Janko Peric is known for his ability to effectively represent the views of his constituents.
A long-time member of the House of Commons Standing Committee on National Defence and Veterans Affairs, he has been a forceful advocate for improving the quality of life for our military personnel and veterans. Mr. Peric’s son is a member of the Canadian Armed Forces and served with Canada’s Navy in the Persian Gulf.
A responsive and accessible constituency representative, he actively promotes awareness within the community about the need to support organizations such as: Out of the Cold, the Cambridge Self-Help Food Bank, the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the local Air and Army Cadets, The Bridges, the YMCA and YWCA, the Diabetes Association, the Portuguese Micaelense Charity Organization, the Huntington Society, the Alzheimer Society, the Women’s Crisis Services, Lissard House.
A 25-year member of the Canadian Auto Workers union (CAW), Mr. Peric worked on the shop floor of Lear Corporation. His tenure in the automotive industry provided him with valuable experience that he has put to good use as Chairman of the National Liberal Automotive Caucus.
Born in Orehovica, Croatia, Mr. Peric, 56, was educated at the Technical School of Zagreb where he earned a diploma in Arts and Sciences. He and his wife Biba have four children. They have lived in Cambridge for more than 25 years.
