Info

Barry Pollard is a San Diego Native with deep roots in southeastern San Diego. Hard work began for Barry at a very young age. As a youngster he would work summers in his maternal Grandmother’s barbershop (The El Saycor) on ImperialAvenue.

Barry’s interest in leadership was cultivated while attending Samuel B. Morse High School, where he participated in several campus activities including the position of starting quarterback for the varsity football team.
Education…

Upon graduating from high school, Barry received a full scholarship to attend the University of Louisiana in Lafayette. He graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration.
Commitment…

In the late 1980’s Barry and his late wife Jeanne returned to San Diego with their three daughters. They moved back into the Pollard Family home in Valencia Park. Instead of the once beautiful neighborhood, Barry found his old neighborhood showing signs of distress. He took note of the illegal drug activity, the lack of sidewalks, few streetlights and cars racing through the neighborhood posing a threat to the children of the area.

Motivated by the desire to save the neighborhood where he grew up, Barry organized a Neighborhood Watch Group. Today the group is still active and they have worked together to see new sidewalks and speed bumps installed as well as ending drug sales out of several local homes. Barry advocates for change that begins at the very rudimentary level, house-by-house and block-by-block.

Barry’s commitment to serve the San Diego community has only grown since the organization of the Neighborhood Watch Group. In 2011, he was appointed to the San Diego Unified School District’s Independent Citizen’s Oversight Committee and is a member of the Encanto Planning Committee, Past President Martin Luther King Democratic Club, the NAACP, Black Political Action Committee of San Diego (BAPAC), the Coalition of Neighborhood Councils, The ARC of San Diego and Common Ground Theatre.
Employment…

A Human Resource expert, Barry currently manages an employment recruiting firm specializing within the Electronics industry. Former Mayor Maureen O’Conner tapped his expertise when she appointed him to the Mayors Small Business Advisory Committee.
