Info | Dennis Fraser Bevington is a politician from the Northwest Territories, Canada. Born in Fort Smith, Northwest Territories he served as mayor of that town of 2,500 from 1988 to 1997. As mayor he made the town quadrilingual, recognizing Chipewyan and Cree as official languages.
He is also a businessman, and has long been active on environmental issues. In the 2000 federal election he ran as the New Democratic Party candidate for the riding of Western Arctic, but lost by 18% to the incumbent Ethel Blondin-Andrew. Bevington tried again in the 2004 election, again losing to Blondin-Andrew, but by one of the closest margins in the country: only 53 votes. In the 2006 election, Bevington succeeded in unseating Blondin-Andrew, with a majority of 1,158.
