Info | WALBRIDGE, Henry Sanford, (cousin of Hiram Walbridge), a Representative from New York; born in Norwich, Conn., April 8, 1801; attended school in Bennington, Vt.; moved to Ithaca, Tompkins County, N.Y., in 1820; studied law; was admitted to the bar and commenced practice in Ithaca; clerk of the board of supervisors of Tompkins County in 1824; member of the State assembly in 1829; president of the village council of Ithaca, Tompkins County, in 1829 and again in 1842; again a member of the State assembly in 1846; elected as a Whig to the Thirty-second Congress (March 4, 1851-March 3, 1853); declined to be a candidate for renomination in 1852; trustee of Ithaca Academy 1858-1868; judge and surrogate of Tompkins County 1859-1868; moved to Leonia, N.J., in 1868 and practiced law in New York City; killed in a railroad accident at Bergen Tunnel near Hoboken, N.J., January 27, 1869; interment in Ithaca City Cemetery, Ithaca, N.Y.
