Info | GOODWIN, Henry Charles, a Representative from New York; born in De Ruyter, Madison County, N.Y., June 25, 1824; completed preparatory studies; studied law; was admitted to the bar in 1846 and commenced practice in Hamilton, N.Y.; district attorney of Madison County 1847-1850; elected as a Whig to the Thirty-third Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Gerrit Smith and served from November 7, 1854, to March 3, 1855; elected as a Republican to the Thirty-fifth Congress (March 4, 1857-March 3, 1859); resumed the practice of law; died in Hamilton, N.Y., November 12, 1860; interment in Madison Street Cemetery.
