InfoA native of Greenville, South Carolina, Sen. Staton received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Furman University in South Carolina and a Ph.D. from the University of Oxford in England. He currently is a publisher in Macon.

Sen. Staton and his wife Catherine have two sons, Trey and William. He is a member of the Rotary Club of Downtown Macon, and sits on the Board of Directors of the (Macon) Museum of Arts and Sciences and the Macon Symphony Orchestra. He also is a member of Highland Hills Baptist Church in Macon.

In 2000, he received the Richard Furman Award from Furman University.
