Info | CUTTS, Richard, a Representative from Massachusetts; born on Cutts Island, Saco, Mass. (now Maine), June 28, 1771; attended rural and private schools; was graduated from Harvard University in 1790; studied law; engaged extensively in navigation and commercial pursuits; member of the State house of representatives in 1799 and 1800; elected as a Republican to the Seventh and the five succeeding Congresses (March 4, 1801-March 3, 1813); was an unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1812 to the Thirteenth Congress; appointed superintendent general of military supplies and served from 1813 to 1817; appointed Second Comptroller of the United States Treasury on March 6, 1817, and served in this capacity until March 21, 1829; died in Washington, D.C., April 7, 1845; interment in St. John’s Graveyard; reinterment in Oak Hill Cemetery in 1857.
