Info | Councilwoman Susie Barber was elected to represent the residents of Joliet in 2007. Susie has lived in the Joliet area for the past 63 years and in District Four for the past 36 years. Her activities include being a member of the Ruth Chapter #9 Order of the Eastern Star, Electrical Workers Minority Caucus, Joliet Coalition of Black Trade Unionist, National Hook up of Black Women and the special reorganization for Political Awareness Group and Empowerment. She is also a member of the Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church. She has received the Joliet Housing Authority Achievement Award for Outstanding Service to Labor.
Family History
Susie is a widowed mother of three children. She also has 16 grand children and great grand children.
Goals for the City of Joliet
As a City Councilwoman, Susie would like to do whatever is necessary to secure our children’s futures and protect what families work so hard for. She would also like to strengthen the foundation for a good education and to improve our community through the support of law enforcement, arts, culture and health and human services programs. Susie would also like to work with City of Joliet staff on issues such as economic development, the Neighborhood Improvement Program and the gateways into the City of Joliet.
