Info | BABCOCK, William, a Representative from New York; born in Hinsdale, Westmoreland County, N.H., in 1785; moved to Penn Yan, N.Y., in 1813 and engaged in mercantile pursuits; upon the formation of Yates County was appointed by the Governor as the first county treasurer; elected as an Anti-Masonic candidate to the Twenty-second Congress (March 4, 1831-March 3, 1833); resumed mercantile pursuits and also was engaged as a hotel keeper; died in Penn Yan, Yates County, N.Y., October 20, 1838; interment in City Hill Cemetery in Torrey Township, near Penn Yan.
