Info | Born in North Louisiana on December 5, 1946, Congressman Rodney Alexander is truly a man of his District. As a family man and an active member of his community, Rodney is proud to have been elected to represent his friends and neighbors in the 5th District of Louisiana. As a respected Louisianian with a lifetime of service and commitment to the families and communities of Northern Louisiana, Rodney is proud to get to continue his work for the people of Louisiana.
As a conservative, small businessman, Rodney brings the proud values of Louisiana's 5th District to Washington where he fights for the families and businesses he represents.
As the Representative for the 5th CD, Rodney has the important job of watching out for the families living in nearly one-third of his great state. Extending from Iberville Parish in South Central Louisiana all the way north to the Arkansas border, the 5th District includes portions of twenty-two of Louisiana's sixty-four parishes.
Although he is a Freshman Legislator in the 108th Congress, Rodney is a veteran politician; having first been elected at the age of 25 to the Jackson Parish Police Jury and then serving for 17 years as a Louisiana State Representative where he was the chairman of the House Health and Welfare Committee. Rodney is proud to be continuing the work which earned him the reputation of being a highly effective, non-partisan lawmaker, able to get things done to make life better for real Americans.
Rodney's committee assignments will allow him to influence issues of great concern to the people of the 5th District and the State of Louisiana. As a veteran of the Air Force Reserves and a member of the House Armed Services Committee, Rodney plays an important role in overseeing our Armed Forces and ensuring our national defense. Rodney's assignment to the House Agriculture Committee, allows him to influence our national agricultural policies and lets him help set the standards and controls which regulate everything from farms to the timber industry.
Rodney, a pro-life, pro-2nd Amendment Democrat, is an active member of the Blue Dog Coalition, and serves as a conservative voice in the Democratic Party in Congress. He is committed to helping his colleagues on both sides of the aisle find a bipartisan consensus on critical issues ranging from health care to tax reform.
Having attended Jonesboro-Hodge High School and Louisiana Tech in Ruston, Rodney is a proud product of Louisiana's public schools. Due to his own school experience and being married to an educator, Rodney is a firm supporter of our public schools and all forms of public education.
Rodney has been married to the former Nancy Sutton for over thirty-five years. They have three children - Ginger, Rod, and Lisa - and four grandchildren.
Rodney and Nancy live with their family in Quitman, Louisiana and attend Sweetwater Baptist Church.
