Info | Mississippi Department of Public Safety Commissioner Stephen B. Simpson is the son of the late James C. Simpson and the late Jeanne Blake Simpson.
After receiving his Bachelor of Science (1980) and Master’s Degree (1981) from Delta State University, Commissioner Simpson was employed as Probation and Parole Officer for the Mississippi Department of Corrections.
In 1985 Commissioner Simpson attended the University of Mississippi Law School and earned his Juris Doctorate Degree in 1988.
After law school, Commissioner Simpson practiced law with his brother, James C. Simpson Jr., and later served as an Assistant District Attorney for Harrison, Hancock, and Stone Counties. In December 2000, Commissioner Simpson was appointed by Governor Ronnie Musgrove to serve as a Circuit Court Judge for the Second Circuit Court which included Harrison, Hancock, and Stone Counties.
In May 2008 Governor Haley Barbour appointed Simpson to serve in his current position as Commissioner of the Mississippi Department of Public Safety.
Simpson resides in Gulfport with his wife, the former Elizabeth Bost of Pontotoc, Mississippi and their three daughters.
