I was born in 1988 in Missouri. I lived in small communities with populations between 100-1000 people for my first 18 years. I graduated from high school at Lineville-Clio Community School which unfortunately had to consolidate several years ago.

My political philosophy was largely shaped by something that occurred in the late 1990’s. My grandmother, a woman I give credit for teaching me very valuable life lessons, had battled cancer for several years. At one point in the late 1990’s, I remember her explaining that the doctors were waiting for FDA approval to try foreign drugs on her. She passed away in early 2001, but the idea that the state could deny someone medication stayed with me. If we own our own body, what business is it of the state if we take a medication particularly if we are sick and dying? That is why, a few years ago, I fought the prosecution of the late Benton Mackenzie who was prosecuted by the state of Iowa for using cannabis oil.

In 2006, I moved to Des Moines where I went to AIB College of Business to attain my Associates Degree in Business Administration. One of the best classes I took that really influenced me was an entrepreneurship class. I was picked as CEO of a class of 37 students. We made the second most profit in the history of the class. Later, I would embrace entrepreneurship and both the successes and failures it has brought me.

In 2006, I became involved in politics. I joined the Libertarian Party of Iowa and started working for a Libertarian Presidential candidate, Dr. George Phillies I worked my way up from a volunteer, to the national volunteer coordinator, to becoming his Cheif of Staff where I managed his campaign operations with the help of Navy Captain Charles Wilhoit.

Captain Wilhoit, was in his mid-80’s but embraced technology to the point of being one of the early people on Facebook. He and his wife Tricia greatly encouraged my activism and while they are no longer in their physical bodies I remain forever grateful for having the privilege of getting to know them during their final years on earth.

I got out of college right as the housing bubble crashed in 2008. I did some work as Business Manager for a weekly newspaper in St. Joseph Missouri where I worked with the late Councilman Mike Bozarth. We took the newspaper online only where it continued on until his untimely death in 2015.

That year I was also elected as Region 6 Alternate to the Libertarian National Committee.

Later in 2008, I managed Bob Barr’s Iowa organization in his run for President and started work in retail which would later become a temporary career as I eventually started managing retail stores.

In 2010, I transferred retail job locations and returned to Des Moines and AIB College of Business where I started my Bachelors Degree in Business Administration.

That year I also, with the encouragement of people like Captain Wilhoit decided to run for Iowa Secretary of State at the age of 22. I was working full-time, going to college full-time, and running for statewide office. I learned a lot of lessons and we ended up getting over 30,000 votes in a three-way race which was at the time the second-best showing in a statewide race in the history of the party.
