Mike Rogers, 43, currently serves in the Alabama House of Representatives, representing House District 36 which covers East Central Calhoun County. First elected to the House in 1994, after defeating the Speaker Pro Tem, he was re-elected in 1998 without opposition. During this second term, Mike was elected House Minority Leader.
A fifth generation resident of Calhoun County, Mike graduated from Saks High School. Both his undergraduate degree in Political Science and his Master of Public Administration Degree were completed at Jacksonville State University.
At 28 years old, he was the youngest person and first Republican elected to the Calhoun County Commission. While serving on the Commission and working for the United Way, Mike enrolled in law school at the Birmingham School of Law, along with his wife, Beth. Upon graduating with honors, Mike began a general law practice with a firm in Anniston. Three years later, he started his own firm along with two partners. This firm has grown to become Anniston's largest firm with nine attorneys.
Although Mike has enjoyed professional success, he considers himself most blessed to be the father of Emily (age 8), Evan (age 7) and Elliot (age 4). Mike and Beth have been married 19 years. He and his family reside in the Saks community and attend Saks Baptist Church, the same church that his grandfather attended.
Active in Republican politics for many years, Mike has served on the Calhoun County Republican Committee for over 20 years. He also serves on the Alabama Republican Executive Committee, having been elected in 1990, 1994 and 1998. Mike has worked in numerous local, state and national campaigns, and has attended three Republican National Conventions as a delegate elected from the Third Congressional District.
One of the achievements that Mike is most proud of was being named "1998 Citizen of the Year" by The Anniston Star. This recognition occurred in large part as a result of his work in building unity among the various parties involved in redeveloping Fort McClellan after its closure. At the time, there were as many opinions as there were community leaders participating in the process of redeveloping the Fort. Mike demonstrated his leadership abilities in hammering out a deal that not only the local leadership could accept but one that would also commit state government to the process.
