| Info | Marty grew up in Sturgis, South Dakota, and graduated from Sturgis High School in 1988. He and his wife Angela currently live in Pierre with their two children, Michael (6) and Isabella (4). The Jackley family enjoys spending time at Marty's family farm near Vale, South Dakota, and also at Angela's family ranch in Meade County. Marty is an avid sportsman, and enjoys outdoor activities with the family lab, "Dakota".
Marty graduated with Honors from South Dakota School of Mines and Technology in 1992, having earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering. He received eight varsity Athletic "M" awards in Track and Cross Country, and has obtained his Engineer-in-Training Certification.
Marty received his law degree from the University of South Dakota School of Law in 1995. From 1995-97, Marty served as a law clerk for the US Federal District Court - District of South Dakota in Rapid City.

He then joined the Rapid City law firm of Gunderson, Palmer, Nelson, & Ashmore, LLP. As a partner, Marty's practice areas focused primarily on criminal law, civil and business litigation, construction/engineering law, Indian law, and environmental/water law. While in private practice, Marty also served as a Special Assistant Attorney General for South Dakota prosecuting primarily controlled substance felonies.
In 2006, Marty was appointed and unanimously confirmed by the US Senate as United States Attorney for the District of South Dakota. During his tenure as US Attorney, the office prosecuted recorded high numbers of both cases and individuals, while fiscally remaining within budget. As US Attorney, he served on both the US Attorney General's Subcommittees for Controlled Substances and the Subcommittees for Native American Issues, and the Midwest High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area Executive Board.
Throughout his diverse career, Marty has gained extensive jury trial experience in federal and state courts through both criminal and civil litigation. Marty's extensive trial experience includes murder, assault, financial crimes, controlled substances, and other felony cases, as well as complex business and tort litigation. His appellate experience includes evidentiary matters, jurisdictional claims, sentencing issues, juvenile transfers, reclamation law, and other substantive legal issues. Marty was recognized as the South Dakota Prosecutor of the Year for 2008 from the South Dakota State's Attorney's Association. He has been honored to serve as a National Advocacy Center Instructor in South Carolina for Basic Criminal Trial Advocacy for Assistant United States Attorneys.
On September 4, 2009, Marty was sworn in as the 30th Attorney General for the State of South Dakota. He serves as the chief law enforcement officer for the State and as the chief legal counsel for the State on civil matters. He co-chairs the South Dakota Law Enforcement Coordinating Committee and serves on the South Dakota Law Enforcement Standards and Training Commission. As Attorney General, Marty is committed to fighting crime, protecting consumers and ensuring that South Dakota remains a safe place to live.
