Info | In 1969, Rich Tarrant and his partner co-founded IDC Systems. They were 26 years old, had seven kids between them, and were able to scrape together $12,500 to get the business started. Over the next 35 years they grew IDX into the largest home-grown, public company in the history of Vermont.
Rich's father came to America at the start of the great depression with an education. Rich's parents worked hard to raise him and his three brothers, yet in spite of their sacrifices and thriftiness, Rich would not have attended St. Michael's College if he had not received a basketball scholarship.
After a successful career at St. Mike's, leading the team to the College Final Four in 1965, he was drafted by the Boston Celtics where he had the opportunity to play for their legendary coach, Red Auerbach.
Rich came back to Vermont and put his degree in mathematics to work; building a computer company that specializes in healthcare applications. For the last 35 years Rich has been immersed in the healthcare field, working to find ways to reduce paperwork, streamline administration and reduce health care costs in the United States. Today, IDX customers include:
-80% of America's academic medical institutions
-150,000 Doctors
-Over 300 Hospitals
Rich has also served as a member of the Board of Trustees for the University Health Center and as a director for Fletcher Allen Healthcare.
In addition to his work in the healthcare field, Rich is actively involved in the community as well, having served as a member of the University of Vermont Board of Trustees and the Board of Trustees at Saint Michael's College, among others.
Rich and his wife live in Colchester, Vermont.
