Info | Growing up in Mt. Alto, West Virginia as the middle child of three, Senator Carte Goodwin attended Ripley High School in Jackson County, before going on to Marietta College to earn his B.A magna cum laude. At Marietta College, he met his wife Rochelle (Rocky), with whom he has two children: Wesley and Anna.
Senator Goodwin went on to attend The Emory University School of Law in Atlanta. After graduation, he became a law clerk for Judge Robert King of the United States Court of Appeals, Fourth Circuit.
Goodwin served as a lawyer in private practice before serving as general counsel to West Virginia Governor Joe Manchin III. In 2010, Senator Goodwin was appointed to the United States Senate to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Robert C. Byrd, and took oath of office July 20, 2010.
While in the U.S. Senate, Senator Goodwin serves on the Senate Armed Services Committee, the Senate Health , Education, Labor and Pensions Commission (HELP), the Senate Budget Committee and the Senate Rules Committee.
