InfoBernie Buescher will make the strongest addition to the Democratic ticket in November. Bernie combines 20 years of business experience, a strong defense of childrens issues, and statewide community appeal to make him a winning ticket for Colorado.

Proven Business Manager

In December 1996, Governor Romer asked Bernie to rescue the financially troubled State Fair. In just three months, Bernie managed the Fair, submitted a business and financial plan, and returned the Fair to profitability. Bernie helped save the Fair and keep it in Pueblo. In 1987, Bernie accepted the challenge of turning around a failing aviation company. For nine years, Bernie was President and CEO of West Star Aviation where the company grew and prospered from 28 employees to 200, from $4 million in revenues to over $30 million. Previously, Bernie was a partner with a Grand Junction legal firm for 15 years where he specialized in transactional and pension law.
Bernie brings over 20 years of business experience to the ticket. Here, Bernie and his son Michael stand in front of West Star Aviation, the business Bernie ran for nine successful years.

Strong Voice for Kids

Before announcing his candidacy for Lieutenant Governor, Bernie was the acting Executive Director of the Colorado Department of Health Care Policy and Finance. In charge of a $1.8 billion budget and 140 employees, Bernie worked to expand health care coverage of uninsured children. When the Federal Government made matching funds available to provide medical coverage for uninsured kids, Bernies department was the first in the country to go after these funds.

Bernie's concern for children's issues originates from his own family. Bernie has four wonderful children, three daughters and one son. Above are Susan, Elizabeth, and Marcia.

Public Service Success

Bernie has been extremely active in a number of community issues and commissions. In 1994, Bernie was appointed to the Colorado Transportation Commission. Representing 11 Western Slope counties, Bernie helped prioritize transportation projects by targeting money to the most important needs in the state. In 1995, Bernie formed the Mesa County Air Service Task Force to deal with the declining quality of air service to Mesa County. Bernie also served on the boards of numerous charities and foundations including the American Cancer Society, Mesa State College Foundation, and Colorado Public Radio.

Colorado Roots

Bernie, 48, is a third generation Coloradan who has lived in Grand Junction all his life. He has been married to his wife Mary Beth for 25 years. Mary Beth is an Assistant District Attorney in Grand Junction. They have four wonderful children -- Susan, Marcia, Elizabeth, and Michael. Bernie attended Notre Dame and returned to Colorado to receive his law degree from the University of Colorado.
