InfoLee Byberg was born on August 26, 1962 in Chicago, Illinois. His parents, Oddmar and Sigrun Byberg, Norwegian citizens, served as Christian missionaries in Brazil and Paraguay. Lee was raised in these South American countries as well as his parents' native Norway when his father served as a pastor to churches in the Telemark and Rogaland regions. Lee moved to Minnesota in 1982 after high school graduation and attended the University of Minnesota Carlson School of Management where he achieved his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (1987) and Master of Business Administration (1990). Lee's choice of Minnesota was, in part, because of his close family connections in Sunburg and Spicer, MN.

Lee was married in 1989 to Nancy Ann Nyberg (now Byberg) from Willmar. Nancy andLee reside in Willmar and have three sons: Kristoffer (19), Anders (17) and Steffen (15). The Bybergs also hosted a young woman, Shauna, from age 12 to 17. All three sons have graduated from or are attending Willmar High School. The boys also attended Community Christian School in Willmar and St. John Lutheran School in Atwater for their elementary education. The two oldest boys are currently attending Ridgewater College in Willmar. Most of Nancy's immediate family resides in Kandiyohi County while Lee's parents and siblings live near Stavanger, Norway. Nancy's grandfather, Roy Jensen at the young age of 100 is the oldest previous member of the MN House of Representatives (GOP).
