Info | From the Wilkes-Barre Citizens-Voice...
"A Wyoming Area High School graduate, O'Meara works as an information systems supervisor for North Star Food Service in Pittston. He's also treasurer of the Sixth District Republican Committee in Luzerne County and has helped organize GOP fund-raisers.
Once deaf because of Osteogenesis Imperfecta, a genetic disorder that causes bones to break easily and which sometimes leads to hearing loss, O'Meara lived inside a self-described "bubble." His hearing began to fade in ninth grade and was gone by March of last year. Once upbeat and outgoing, O'Meara's confidence waned, anxiety at the grocery store as evidence. That changed Sept. 4, when doctors at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania switched on a cochlear implant in O'Meara's right ear, freeing him from the bubble. And though he hated the sound of crinkling cellophane, the first noise O'Meara heard felt like a small miracle."
