InfoSheldon Whitehouse is the former state attorney general of Rhode Island currently running for the Democratic nomination for United States Senate in 2006.

Whitehouse's main primary opponent is secretary of state Matt Brown. He currently leads Brown in pre-primary polling and Whitehouse has racked up major endorsements from Congressmen Patrick Kennedy and Jim Langevin. Both Whitehouse and Brown are seeking to defeat incumbent Senator Lincoln Chafee, a Republican seeking a second full term.

Whitehouse was a candidate for governor in the 2002. He was defeated in the Democratic primary by former State Senator and three time failed gubernatorial candidate Myrth York.

He is married to his wife Sandra and lives in Providence with their two children, Molly and Alexander.
