Info | SWOPE, Samuel Franklin, a Representative from Kentucky; born in Bourbon County, Ky., March 1, 1809; attended the rural schools of Bourbon and Scott Counties and the Georgetown (Ky.) College; studied law; was admitted to the bar March 1, 1830, and commenced practice in Georgetown, Ky.; moved to Falmouth, Pendleton County, Ky., in 1832 and continued the practice of law; member of the State house of representatives 1837-1839 and in 1841; served in the State senate 1844-1848; elected as a candidate of the American Party to the Thirty-fourth Congress (March 4, 1855-March 3, 1857); was not a candidate for renomination in 1856; affiliated with the Republican Party in 1856; engaged in the practice of law at Falmouth, Ky., until his death April 19, 1865; interment in Riverside Cemetery.
