Background and Accomplishments

Born in 1941 to William and Madeline Richardson in Caddo, Oklahoma, with a twin sister, Rheda, Gary grew up the son of a sharecropper on a cotton farm. Gary has known hard work all his life. He started helping his father on the farm at age 14, driving a tractor and working alongside men twice his age.

The value of hard work Gary learned early in life helped him establish a remarkable career of leadership, courage, achievement and extraordinary public service. Gary has served as a state and federal prosecutor and is today a successful attorney and small businessman. He's known as a champion for working Oklahomans when they face powerful special interest groups.

Now, Gary Richardson, a father of three children, stepfather of two, and a grandfather of eight, faces his toughest challenge yet - a campaign to become Oklahoma's first Independent Governor. He's taking on the political establishment to put an end to partisanship and put people first. Those who know Gary, know he will succeed.

Recognized Leadership - From the Start

A graduate of Southern Nazarene University in 1963, Gary played varsity basketball and tennis, and was voted one of two graduates most likely to succeed.

During a successful stint as an insurance adjuster, salesman and sales manager, Gary attended night law school while supporting a family.

In 1974, Gary became an Oklahoma Assistant Insurance Commissioner under the late Joe B. Hunt. He served as head of the investigation team and prosecuted insurance agents and adjusters. Two years later, Gary became an Assistant District Attorney for Muskogee County where he won 14 consecutive convictions, a new record.

Fighting Crime and Corruption - and Winning

In 1981, President Ronald Reagan appointed Gary to serve as U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Oklahoma, an appointment unanimously confirmed by the U.S. Senate. Gary gained recognition for taking on corruption at the highest levels of government. He won convictions against two powerful state office holders, and helped lead a team that successfully prosecuted 74 Oklahoma county commissioners, one of the largest political corruption scandals in state history.

Taking on Powerful Special Interests - and Winning

In 1984, Gary founded a successful plaintiff's law firm specializing in winning justice for average, working Oklahomans. Gary's success led members of the media to call him "Oklahoma's Legal Top Gun."

Gary's compassion for the common man led him to became a co-founder of Integrity Homes and Magna Distributors, companies supplying affordable housing in Oklahoma's smaller communities, a need many builders ignored. Gary also is co-founder of four other small businesses in the housing and financial industries.
