InfoLeslie Jacobs is a native New Orleanian and award-winning education reform advocate, business executive and civic leader. She is one of the most vocal, consistent and passionate voices for education reform in Louisiana, serving initially as an elected member of the Orleans Parish School Board and then as a member of the State Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE) under two Governors.

Leslie was a driving force to bring Charter Schools to the public education system in New Orleans. She is the founder of “Educate Now!”, a non-profit organization dedicated to continuing the broad, post-Katrina reforms of New Orleans public schools she helped institute and execute as a member of BESE. More than half of all public elementary and secondary schools in Orleans are now charter.

Leslie is also an experienced executive and leader in the New Orleans business community, focusing on regional growth and cooperation, and is the founder of 504ward, an organization dedicated to retaining young professionals in New Orleans.

Leslie began work at her family’s independent insurance agency in 1981. As she assumed the agency’s leadership from her father, it became one of the top 100 insurance brokers in the United States and one of the largest in the South. She eventually sold the Rosenthal Agency to Hibernia National Bank, now Capital One. Leslie has been married to Scott Jacobs for 29 years and they are the proud parents of two beautiful adult daughters.
