Info | SNAPP, Henry, (father of Howard Malcolm Snapp), a Representative from Illinois; born in Livonia, Livingston County, N.Y., June 30, 1822; moved with his parents to Rochester, N.Y., in 1825; attended the common schools of that city; moved to Homer, Will County, Ill., in 1833, where he completed his common-school education; studied law; was admitted to the bar in 1843 and commenced practice in Joliet, Will County, Ill.; member of the State senate from 1869 to 1871; elected as a Republican to the Forty-second Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Burton C. Cook and served from December 4, 1871, to March 3, 1873; declined to be a candidate for renomination in 1872; resumed the practice of his profession in Joliet, Ill., where he died on November 26, 1895; interment in Oakwood Cemetery.
