Info | Jon W. Zellhoefer "The Bear" was born July 3, 1953 to Drs. Howard (Harvard) and Florence Zellhoefer (USC) in San Francisco, California. Jon grew up in the Monterey area. At the age of 9 he moved to France receiving a classical education and a Presidential recognition for his academic achievements. Upon returning to California, he graduated from Junipero Serra Catholic grade school in Carmel. In 1967, Jon's family relocated to Hawaii as a result of a demand for his mother's special skills in medicine. In 1970 he returned to California and graduated from Alhambra High School where he obtained varsity letters in soccer and for his participation in the marching band. He received his nickname, "The Bear" as a soccer full back. At graduation, his peers and the faculty selected "The Bear" as the person most likely to succeed in the field of engineering. True to his classmates' prediction, he graduated in 1975 from UCLA School of Engineering where he was on the Dean's Advisory Committee, was elected and served as Senior Class president, and president of his fraternity. He was Vice President of Operations at 32 in the engineering computer industry. By the age of 35 "The Bear" was elected President of the Orange County Society of Manufacturing Engineers. Jon married his college sweetheart, settled in Orange County, and was married for 23 years. He returned to school to receive his MBA from Cal State Fullerton in 1986. He relocated his family to Mariposa where they could benefit from the values of a small town and open spaces. At his home he ran his electrical contracting and consulting business from 1992-1998. "The Bear" was recognized by the U.S. Department of Energy as one of the leading energy experts in the country in 1997. Following the continued collapse of the technical market coupled with the pervasive problem of protecting intellectual property, he decided to return to law school. He received his JD law degree June 1, 2003 from Monterey College of Law. At the encouragement of his friends and business associates who are aware of the content of his character and skills in business, he is running for the California Senate in Silicon Valley (District 11). Some of his fresh approaches to government include more services for Senior Citizens and supporting the voucher system to improve education for students. Working together, let's put "The Bear" back in Sacramento.
