| Info | Hard-fought professional achievement, personal resilience and a genuine free market outlook uniquely qualify David Ratowitz for service as a statesman representing the citizens of Illinois’ 5th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives.
David was raised in south suburban Hazel Crest, attending Homewood-Flossmoor Community High School. He went on to study Anthropology at the University of Iowa on an Army ROTC scholarship, graduating as the Distinguished Military Graduate with a BA degree in 1992.
Continuing a proud family tradition of military service, David entered active duty and graduated from U.S. Army Airborne and Ranger Schools. He served as an officer in the 82nd Airborne and 2nd Infantry Divisions from 1992 to 1997 while stationed in Korea, Fort Bragg, NC, and deployed to Haiti. He was honorably discharged in 1997 with the rank of Captain, Field Artillery.
In 2000, David founded a successful real estate development and property management firm in New Orleans, Louisiana, where he lived for 8 years. He earned concurrent MBA and JD degrees from Tulane University in 2003.
In 2005, Hurricane Katrina profoundly impacted David on both personal and professional levels. In the aftermath of the devastation, after losing the roof off of his own family home, David worked on the ground to rebuild his business and community. When the challenging circumstances necessitated a change in business plan, David adjusted quickly by forming a companion construction company.
It was during this time that David gained a more complete appreciation of the power of the individual and voluntary cooperation among citizens, versus centralized planning, in overcoming hardships and building successful communities and enterprises.
David and his family returned to his hometown in 2007, establishing The Ratowitz Law Firm, LLC in Chicago, which specializes in federal employment law and provides investor real estate services. A member of the Turnaround Management Association, David helps to provide professional services to companies that are suffering financial and operational setbacks. He also maintains membership in the Chicago Council on Global Affairs, Chicago Association of Realtors and the Young Professionals of Chicago.
David has been politically active in the Chicago area for a number of years, advancing the principles of limited government and individual liberty at every opportunity. He is a member and serves on committees of the Chicago GOP, Chicago Young Republicans and the Republican Jewish Coalition. David is also a leader in the Campaign for Liberty, formerly serving as the organization’s Region 5 Coordinator.
David currently resides in the Avondale neighborhood and is the father of two young children.
