Info | Mr. Scutari was elected to the State Senate in 2003 and re-elected four times. In 2003, he was serving his eighth year as a member of the Union County Board of Chosen Freeholders. He was freeholder chairman in 1999 and vice chairman in 1998.
The senator sponsored a 2013 law barring individuals on federal terrorist watch lists from buying handguns, and 2014 laws revising bail and alimony statutes.
Senator Scutari began his career in public service in 1994, when he was elected to the Linden Board of Education. During his tenure, he served as chairman of the personnel, insurance and athletics committees.
The senator graduated from Kean College with honors in 1989, and received a master’s degree from Rutgers University in 1990. He earned a law degree from Western Michigan University in 1993, where he received the John D. Voelker Award as outstanding law review associate. He is a member of the bar in both New Jersey and New York, and is a practicing attorney with offices in Linden. He is recognized by the New Jersey Supreme Court as a certified civil trial attorney.
He is a member of the Union County Bar Association, the National Bar Association’s Council of School Attorneys, the Middlesex County Trial Lawyers Association, the Richard J. Hughes American Inn of Court and the National Eagle Scout Association.
Senator Scutari was born Nov. 18, 1968, in Newark.
