InfoBelinda K. Conaway represents the 7th District of the Baltimore City Council. Councilwoman Conaway was elected in November 2004. She is a native of Baltimore and a graduate of Western High School. She received her B.A. Degree from Bowie State University and her Masters Degree from Indiana University in Pennsylvania. She worked for more than 15 years in the Baltimore City Public School system as a guidance counselor and classroom teacher. She was also elected as a John Edwards Delegate at the 2004 Democratic National Convention.

Accomplishments
Councilwoman Conaway sponsored legislation to extend recreation center hours during the summer. She lobbied successfully for renovations at Ashburton Elementary/ Middle School, playground repair at Robert Coleman Elementary, and she led a coalition of community groups in negotiating a $50,000 gift to Frederick Douglass High School from General Growth Properties, owners of Mondawmin Mall. She has helped Remington with traffic safety issues and helped improve safety at the stoplight at 36th St. and Falls Rd in Hampden. She sponsored a unanimously passed resolution asking the governor and the General Assembly to hold a special session on BGE rate increases. She helped Women Behind the Community (Wo-Be-Co) find a new and better location for their free business attire program for women seeking employment. Strengthening neighborhoods is a priority. Councilwoman Conaway sponsored Community Empowerment Day, a networking conference for all the neighborhood associations in the 7th District so they could meet with city agencies and other service providers in the city. She sponsored voter registration training for community residents in partnership with the Baltimore Branch NAACP.

Supported Community Efforts
Councilwoman Conaway has supported a number of community initiatives, including the Gwynns Falls Football and Cheerleading Academy, and the Gwynns Falls Elementary School Student of the Month Program. She initiated "The Seniors Beat the Heat" fan drive in partnership with Total Health Care, the Baltimore City Health Department and The Baltimore City Commission on Aging and Retirement Education, giving fans to needy senior citizens across Baltimore in 2006 and 2007. Councilwoman Conaway or staff members attend community association meetings across the district every month. She supports neighborhood groups and churches by publicizing their efforts in her quarterly newsletter "The Conaway Chronicle." Councilwoman Conaway also sponsored a job fair at Mondawmin Mall with the mall owners that brought city residents together with contractors working on mall renovations and other employers. Councilwoman Conaway prides herself on keeping her promise to be accessible and available to her constituents whether by e-mail, telephone or appointments. She keeps in touch with her constituents on a regular basis and is ready to assist with district issues such as when she persuaded a local cab company owner to meet with the Panway Neighborhood's Community Association over a number of issues. She regularly intercedes with city agencies for constituents and troubleshoots 311 call problems.

Councilwoman Conaway is married and has two children who attend local schools.

Daughter of Circuit Court Clerk and mayoral candidate Frank M. Conaway.

She ran unsuccessfully in 2002 for the House of Delegates.
