InfoE. Joyce Schulte

Joyce earned the Educational Specialist degree in counseling psychology and educational psychology from the University of Missouri-Columbia.
Joyce grew up on a farm. "I had 10 very good years in 4-H and on the tractor." She graduated from a very small high school and did not expect to attend (though dreamed of) college.

The college dream became real with the offer of a full-ride scholarship from the Missouri Dept. of Vocational Rehabilitation. "I have one of those hidden disabilities, but the brain worked fine."

"My first two years of college were great. Lots of learning, lots of activities, good grades, meeting people from all across the nation." After transferring to the University of Missouri-Columbia trouble came in terms of not knowing how to survive and thrive on a big campus. "I was majoring in medical technology, and still love science, but as a First Generation kid I had little in terms of an active support system." There's one scholarship lost!

Joyce went back to complete the Bachelor degree as a widow with two young boys. "As they got into school we studied as a family."

Career credits include:

Hospice Counselor in Columbia
Hospital Chaplain, Diocese of Jefferson City & selected to attend International Colloquium in Brussels, Belgium
Psychological Examiner at the 4th Judicial Juvenile Justice Center
Campus Director/Treatment Director for Quakerdale facility at Manning, IA
Taught various psychology courses at Columbia College in Columbia; Iowa Western Community College; Southwestern Community College; and Buena Vista University, Creston campus
Provided counseling and therapy In-Patient and Out-Patient and In-Home
Owned two restaurants
"I travel for fun and to learn about the world. Photography lets me bring some of it home."
