InfoTim Stubson’s grandfather came to Wyoming in the 1920s as a runaway. He worked in the oilfield with less than an 8th grade education, but raised a thriving family in his adopted home state. Tim’s father also worked in the oilfields, one of multiple jobs he had in Wyoming. Tim was born in Casper, spent part of his childhood in Thermopolis while his father worked in the Grass Creek Field, then moved back to Casper. During the volatile period of the 80s, the possibility of out-of-state transfers or layoffs was never far away for the Stubson family.

“The stress and anticipation of that uncertainty is very real to me, and I understand how that affects a family. The price of a barrel of oil and unemployment aren’t macro-economics to me; they’re real people with real consequences,” Tim said.

His father was later transferred to Cody where Tim graduated high school. Tim enrolled at the University of Wyoming where he earned his undergraduate and law degrees, and became a lifelong ‘Poke. During law school, Tim met his wife Susan, who -- after a brief career in New York as a pianist -- returned home to Wyoming to work as an attorney and raise a family.

“Faith and family remain the cornerstone of my life,” he said.

After law school, Tim and Susan moved to Casper where he worked as an attorney supporting small businesses. Working closely with local entrepreneurs and business owners, Tim saw firsthand how unnecessary and burdensome federal regulations dampens innovation. He also learned how difficult starting a small business can be, and the effort it takes to make one succeed. He wanted government to facilitate progress rather than impede it so, in 2008, he ran for a seat in the Wyoming state legislature.

“I began my work in politics under the tenet that leadership means helping everyone around you succeed. Each official only has one vote so, to create positive change, you have to find solutions that work for everyone. Most importantly, you have to build a reputation of integrity. Building a reputation of consistently being honest, reliable and hard-working was always my top priority. By building relationships, providing solutions and inspiring others to do the same, I have proven myself to be a problem-solver during my time in the Wyoming House,” Tim said.
Living the Wyoming way

Raised in Wyoming, Tim learned from his family and neighbors that honesty and hard work are our most valuable resources. Anyone representing the Cowboy State in office needs to have lived our unique way of life; it’s the only way to understand what we need from our government and what kinds of problems should be solved.

Tim and Susan have two young boys who are learning the Wyoming way of life, which means accountability and living within their means. If the federal government understood these principles, Wyoming and our nation would have a much brighter future. This is why Tim is running for a seat in Congress. He wants the next generation of Wyomingites to have the same opportunities for prosperity that his father and grandfather provided for him.

“Washington is at a critical mass right now. We’re soon going to learn if our federal government will be responsive to the people it serves, or if it will completely lose touch with them. I want to be Wyoming’s voice during this crucial stage,” Tim said.

As a history lover, Independence Rock is Tim’s favorite place in the world. Being able to admire the trails, Devils Gate and the wide open Wyoming sky while standing on top of this landmark is a truly special experience. It’s also one of the best places to reflect on the ingenuity and determination it took pioneers to get there -- and how we still live that way of life in Wyoming today.

“I love our state, and I respect the people who live here," Tim said, "so I want to go to Washington to preserve our way of life, and to make sure Wyoming continues to be the nation's best place to work and raise a family.”
