| Info | U.S. Representative Thomas M. Reynolds marks the first session of the 108th Congress as a member of the Republican Majority's leadership team, after being elected by his colleagues to the post of Chairman of the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC). As NRCC Chairman, Reynolds is one of only eight elected House GOP leaders.
Reynolds also serves as a member of the powerful House Rules Committee, through which virtually every piece of legislation must pass before heading to the House floor. Reynolds also serves on the House Administration Committee, which has oversight of all functions of the House, as well as jurisdiction over federal elections and campaign finance. Additionally, he serves as a Deputy Majority Whip, and is "on leave with seniority" from the tax-writing Ways and Means Committee.
In 2002, Reynolds' ascension to the top ranks of the House leadership was the subject of profiles in both the New York Times and Washington Post. The Times reported that he has "filled a large void in a weakened New York delegation" because of his reputation for loyalty and hard work; while the Post noted that "Reynolds has quietly become one of the most influential Republicans in the House." In a series of articles on the increasing effectiveness of Western New York's Congressional delegation, the Buffalo News, Reynolds' hometown newspaper, noted that he "wields influence on virtually every major state issue."
Reynolds prides himself on strong constituent casework, and in just the past two years, helped deliver more than $272 million in federal money to his Western New York Congressional District.
Tom has been cited for his record with awards and honors ranging from being named a "Champion of the Dairy Farmers" and "Hero of the Taxpayer," to receiving the U.S. Apple Association's "Golden Apple Award" and the "Guardian Eagle" award for championing senior issues.
First elected to Congress on November 3, 1998, Tom represents New York�s 26th district, which includes seven Western New York counties, and encompasses parts of Erie, Monroe, Orleans and Niagara Counties, and all of Genesee, Livingston, and Wyoming Counties.

Born September 3, 1950, Tom previously served as a member of the New York State Assembly. First elected to the Assembly in 1988, he rose to the post of Assembly Republican Leader in 1995, becoming the first Republican from the eight counties of Western New York to lead an Assembly party conference in more than 60 years.
While in the Assembly, Tom served as Chairman of the Assembly Minority Affordable Housing Task Force, and was honored as Legislator of the Year by the American Legislative Exchange Council for his work championing affordable home ownership initiatives in New York state.
Prior to his service in the State Assembly, Tom was a member of the Erie County Legislature from 1982 - 1988, and was elected by his colleagues as Republican Leader in that house as well. He also served on the Concord Town Board from 1974-82, where he rose to the position of Deputy Supervisor.
He has twice been recognized by Business First Magazine as one of 100 most influential Western New Yorkers, and was the subject of a Buffalo News Sunday Magazine profile titled Mr. Clout, which named him Western New York�s most powerful politician.
A licensed real estate and insurance broker, Tom was educated at Springville-Griffith Institute and Kent State University. He served as Erie County Republican Chairman from 1990-1996.
Involved in a range of community, civic and regional activities, he is a former director of the Better Business Bureau, Cooperative Extension, and Central Referral Services. Tom rose to the rank of sergeant in the New York Air National Guard, which he served in from 1970 - 1976, and is a member of the American Legion.
Among his many awards and accomplishments, Tom has been named to the New York State Farm Bureau�s Circle of Friends, was honored by the New York State Sheriff�s Association as a Friend of Law Enforcement, was named Legislator of the Year by the Shooters Committee on Political Education (SCOPE), and was inducted into the Kids Escaping Drugs Hall of Fame. In 1996, he was honored by his hometown Chamber of Commerce with its prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award.
