| Info | Home Town: I was born in Des-Moines, a block away from the Capitol. I spent my elementary school years running up and down the steps to the Capitol dome, playing with my dog on the lawns, climbing the statues and splashing in the fountains. I am excited by the opportunity to return to the Capitol as an adult to provide leadership which will allow Iowa's current young people the opportunities I had, Equally important are the kids who have grown into adulthood who are paying taxes and deserve representation that assures they have the qualities of life guaranteed by our constitution. No less important are those who may be out of work, have physical or mental challenges, are currently homeless, or have othewise been marginalized. We are all Iowans and the tent is large enough for all of us if we will it.
Family: My son Alex is 21 and a Junior at University of Iowa. My daughter Beth is 18 and a Freshman also at University of Iowa. Both kids graduated from McKinley Elementary, Sudlow Middle School, and Central High Schools in Davenport. I'm blessed to have these two miracles of creation in my life.
Education: Graduated from Iowa State University in 1978 with Bachelors Degrees in Fish and Wildlife Biology and Psychology. Also attended Cedarville Baptist Bible College in Cedarville, Ohio and Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, Washington. I completed graduate work at the University of Maryland in Animal Nutrition.
Military Service: I'm a Viet Nam Era Veteran having served in the U.S. Air Force from 1971-1975. I was stationed in Texas, Washington, California, and Keflavik, Iceland.
Occupation: I retired from the Department of Defense in 2007 after 32 years as a Fish and Wildlife Biologist\Administrator. I worked for Installation Management Command at Rock Island Arsenal since 1987. I recently completed 2 years as an Environmental Consultant with Weston Solutions, Inc.
Affiliations: I am in my 3rd term on the Davenport Community School District Board of Education and am currently serving as Vice President. I was recently elected to the Iowa Association of School Boards Board of Directors. I am on the board of Students Training with Advocates for Academics and Success (STAARS). I'm a member of the Davenport Unitarian Church and have served on the board of trustees and chaired numerous committees.
