InfoMike Carroll lives in Mansfield Ohio with his wife Jenny. He is the proud stepfather of Nicole, a juvenile probation officer and Matt, a machinist. He is a member of United Steelworkers and has worked for AK Steel for 24 years. Mike works in the melt shop and is local 169's Education, Training & Personal Development Coordinator. Previously Mike served as the Worker's Compensation Representative.

Mike is a veteran of the Ohio Air National Guard, a member of the VFW Post 3494 Men's Auxiliary and a charter member of the Union Sportsmen's Alliance. Mike is a member of F&AM, Shiloh Lodge #544, and the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Columbus. He is currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in labor studies through the National Labor College in Silver Springs, MD.

Mike serves on an allocation committee of the Richland County United Way and is active in his local neighborhood watch program. He was a finalist for Governor Strickland's new workers compensation board of directors' positions.

Mike's local union went through a bitter 3 1/2 year lockout from 1999-2003. In talking to middle class workers throughout the district, he encountered many who have lost their jobs, or knows someone who has, due to their companies shutting down and going overseas or south of the border. Many have had to file bankruptcy. Because of the labor situation Mike found himself in he was forced to file bankruptcy. Mike was lucky to be able to return to his job and get back on his feet. Mike and his wife purchased a neighborhood sports grille for her to run, in the hopes that if the mill would ever happen to shut down they would have a small business to fall back on.

Mike is running because everywhere he goes in the district, he finds workers who are afraid: afraid that their plant or business may be shut down and moved overseas, afraid that they could be out on the street without a job and without insurance for their families. Mike believes the working class needs to take back America. There are so many issues that affect the district but none more so than economic issues. We need fair trade agreements that protect American workers and American investment. We need to quit rewarding companies for throwing Americans out of work.

We need a voice in Washington to speak for the residents of the fourth district, not for powerful corporations and special interest groups that are more concerned for the bottom line than the American family.
