Info | David DiPietro was born on June 22nd 1960, in Buffalo. His parents Carl and Elaine DiPietro moved to East Aurora with his brother and two sisters when he was only a year old. His mother Elaine, still lives in the house where he grew up. David attended Immaculate Conception Elementary, East Aurora High School and graduated with a B.S. Degree in Business Administration from Wittenberg University in Springfield, Ohio in 1985. During his college career, DiPietro lettered in both soccer and football and was invited to play professional soccer.
Following graduation, DiPietro worked at M & T Bank in Buffalo in the Trust Division. In 1989 he worked as a computer and accounting consultant to small businesses in Western New York. In 1991, DiPietro took over the family business; Sparkle Cleaners in Amherst, New York and within 3 years tripled sales and doubled the number of employees. Presently he has added two locations and a number of corporate accounts and routes.
DiPietro was elected Trustee in the Village of East Aurora in 1999. In 2002, DiPietro was elected Mayor and took control of a village on the verge of fiscal collapse. In less than 2 years, DiPietro turned the Villages financial situation around and proceeded to have three straight tax cuts. First time ever in the history of the Village of East Aurora. In 2005, DiPietro was recognized at the State of the County of Erie conference as the leader in New York State in mergers and consolidations of government departments and services. Some of the highlights of his tenure as Mayor of the Village of East Aurora are:
* Consolidated Building and Code Enforcement
* Consolidated Water and Sewer
* Dog and Animal Control
* Merged one the most expensive sewer departments in the state with Erie County. (The average sewer and water bill in the village was $250.00 per quarter. Some families were paying over $800.00 per quarter.)
* Health Care: When DiPietro became Mayor, every employee in the Village could have any health care plan with any rider, 100 percent paid for by taxpayers. DiPietro negotiated personally with every union. Today, employees have two options, Community Blue and Independent health basic plans. No options. Every employee pays 25% of their plan.
* Privatized Garbage collection. First time the C.S.E.A. contracted out of a negotiated service.
* In 2008, left office with 14% less employees than when he became Mayor.
* Cut Administrative salaries.
* Enacted open meetings initiative, taking board meetings into public venues for the citizens.
* Started Village website and Newsletter with all departments and services connected.
DiPietro has a long history of community service. David was Lothlorien Therapeutic Riding Center Volunteer of the Year Award in 2004. Member of the East Aurora Moose Lodge 370, American Legion Post 362, East Aurora Rotary Club, Six Towns Youth Court, Boys and Girls Club of East Aurora. Organized and raised over $30,000.00 for 9-11 fundraiser. Aurora Players “Community Partnership” Award. Organized “Pray For Peace, Support Our Troops Rally. Founded “Bikes For Needy Kids” Program. Organized “Toys For Kids” Fundraiser. Top fundraiser for Hospice event in 1998. Donated Fitness Equipment to Aurora Senior center. Top fundraiser for Boys and Girls Club 100 Holes of Golf Event. Brought back East Aurora’s traditional 4th Of July Fireworks Celebration which attracts over 10,000 people.
