| Info | My name is Randy Schiller and I am running for the office of Governing Board Member for the Phoenix Union High School District. I am a Phoenix native and a graduate of North High a PUHSD school. Go Mustangs! I am married with 2 children and live in Laveen, Arizona where I am currently serving my fifth year on the Laveen ESD Governing Board.
When we moved to Laveen in 2004 the schools were labeled "Under Performing" and "Failing". As a concerned parent, I made the decision to get on the school board and make changes. Due in part to my participation on the board, we now have new leadership in administration from the Superintendent down, an intense focus on curriculum and bringing our textbooks up to date and we mentor new board members. Today, the Laveen school district now has five schools rated "Highly Performing" and one school rated "Excelling" (the only excelling school in the Southwest valley).
With these significant, changes I feel it is time to take my experience, results, ideas and leadership to the Phoenix Union High School District as a Governing Board Member. My first and biggest goal once elected will be to form a "Transition Committee". This committee will be made up of board members and staff from the 13 feeder elementary school districts. We will work together to better prepare the children for the transition between grade school and high school. The goal is to see a lower drop-out rate and higher test scores.
Two years ago, I along with the other board members in Laveen, received the Lou Ella Kleinz - Award of Excellence From the ASBA for demonstrating the most outstanding educational leadership in Arizona. Some of my other community involvement includes:

Laveen Community Council
Laveen Summer Ball Program, Community Relations
Madison Little League
I am a PARENT. I am someone who is making difference. I am focused on the children for the right reasons. I will listen, get community involvement and make decisions that are children focused. I’m not a Politician. I will do what’s right, and not what’s right for to make a political resume look good.
