Info | The 2001 mayoral campaign was the most envigorating experience of my life. Thank you to all of those who made WatchTheMayor.com possible.
My grandfather came to this country as an indentured servant. My parents came of age during the Depression and WWII. I grew up in the New Jersey suburb of Glen Rock, where I was Student Council President and Captain of the track team in High School. I have been a resident of Los Angeles for 18 years. I have a Bachelor of Arts in Theater from UCLA, and also studied at UC Berkeley, and Birmingham University in Great Britain. In my working life, I have accomplished numerous victories in a quest to make Los Angeles a better place to live. I have taught English to recent immigrants in South Los Angeles. I´ve performed and facilitated issue-based theater in schools throughout LA County and operated the non-profit Open Fist Theatre Co. in Hollywood (which has held many benefits for local causes). The LA Weekly has recognized me for my achievements there. I have been a professional actor, though I am not currently pursuing that career. I was a partner in the photographic storytelling website, Eyelumination, which also published the award-wining book, The Wadiba Tree. I have been a voter for the Theatre LA Ovation Awards and a Director of the Edge of the World Theater Festival.
Like 61% of Angelenos, I am not a home owner. I rent an apartment in Venice. I'm the Business Manager of Dawson´s Book Shop, Antiquarian Booksellers since 1905. In the 14 years I have worked at the shop, I have had the unique opportunity to immerse myself in the past and present of Los Angeles. As the oldest book store in the city of Los Angeles, Dawson's not only specializes in Los Angeles history, it has helped to shape it. I worked at Dawson's for most of the campaign. I believe real world working experience is lacking in our current crop of politicians.
