Info | Mary Etta Ruley was born in Gas City in Grant County. She is the oldest of six children. She has one sister and four brothers. There are two sets of twins. One twin brother has twin girls. Her grandparents and parents were grain and dairy farmers. Mary Etta lives in the family farm home in which she was raised. Her father also was a tool-and-die maker at General Motors, a brother retired from General Motors, and a brother is employed by Chrysler in Kokomo. As a young woman, she was involved in 4-H and active in the Gas City Methodist Church. She graduatued from Mississinewa High School, and she is degreed in Economics from the University of Maryland.
She was president of two large consulting companies, working with small businesses, Fortune 500 corporations, and government departments and agencies. She was president of a high-technology company, and she brought a technology manufacturing company from bankruptcy. She knows what it is to meet payrolls, save jobs and create new jobs -- Vital experience in tough economic times.
Upon her return to the Fifth District in 1999, she was Vice President for Education for Grant County's Business-Education Partnership. She was Chairwoman of Hewlett-Packard's Digital Village Project in Grant County which created Grant County's first vision statement. She is founder of the Technology Area Planning Partners which held Grant County's first High Technology Summit, drawing major state and national panelists.
In 2000 she and a group of math and science teachers proposed a regional science center. She continues working on this major project, as well as running two small businesses.
