Info | LE FEVRE, Benjamin, a Representative from Ohio; born near Maplewood, Shelby County, Ohio, on October 8, 1838; attended Miami University, Oxford, Ohio, in 1858 and 1859; studied law in Sidney, Ohio; during the Civil War enlisted in the Union Army in 1861 and served until the close of the war; mustered out as major of the Fiftieth Ohio Infantry and brevetted brigadier general; member of the State house of representatives in 1865; nominated in 1866 for secretary of state by the Democrats of Ohio; United States consul at Nuremberg, Bavaria, 1867-1869; elected as a Democrat to the Forty-sixth and to the three succeeding Congresses (March 4, 1879-March 3, 1887); was not a candidate for renomination in 1886; mail contract agent for Erie Railway Co.; retired from political activities and engaged in agricultural pursuits in Salem Township, Shelby County, Ohio; died in Atlantic City, N.J., on March 7, 1922; interment in Glenn Cemetery, Salem Township, Shelby County, Ohio.
