Belknap, Secretary of War; unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1880 to the Forty-seventh Congress; resumed the practice of his profession in Dayton, Montgomery County, Ohio; served as president of the Ohio State Bar Association in 1886; unsuccessful candidate for election to the United States Senate in 1889; died in Dayton, Ohio, March 8, 1923; interment in Woodland Cemetery.
