Info | JONES, Benjamin, a Representative from Ohio; born in Winchester, Frederick County, Va., on April 13, 1787; moved with his parents to Washington, Pa.; received a limited schooling; learned the trade of cabinetmaking; moved to Wooster, Ohio, in 1812 and engaged in mercantile pursuits; justice of the peace in 1815; commissioner for Wayne County in 1818; member of the State house of representatives in 1821 and 1822; member of the State senate 1829-1832; elected as a Jacksonian to the Twenty-third and Twenty-fourth Congresses (March 4, 1833-March 3, 1837); chairman, Committee on Expenditures in the Department of War (Twenty-fourth Congress); was not a candidate for renomination; resumed business interests in Wooster, Ohio, and died there April 24, 1861; interment in Oak Hill Cemetery.
