Lawrence F. Stengel was appointed judge of the Court of Common Pleas of Lancaster County in 1990, elected in 1991 and retained in 2001. Judge Stengel received a B.A. in English from St. Joseph’s University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and a J.D. degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law, where he served on the Law Review.

Following graduation from law school, Judge Stengel practiced with Dickey McCamey & Chilcote, P.C. in Pittsburgh until 1985. In 1985 he opened a private
practice in Lancaster.

His judicial responsibilities include hearing civil, criminal and juvenile cases.

Since 1997, Judge Stengel has been an adjunct professor at Franklin & Marshall College, teaching in the Government Department and at Millersville University, teaching in the Sociology Department. He is a member of the Lancaster Bar Association, where he served as President of the Association in 2002, the Pennsylvania Bar Association and the Pennsylvania Conference of State Trial Judges, where he serves on the Executive Committee.

Judge Stengel is married to Theresa Berger Stengel and has five children.
