Kathy is a 1981 graduate of High Point Senior High School in Beltsville, MD. While in High School, Kathy was involved in many activities, including the school newspaper and student government She was a member of the National Honor Society. With the assistance of scholarships, Kathy attended the University of Maryland, where she earned a B.S. in Journalism in 1985. A few months after college graduation, Kathy picked up a book entitled, “Financing Your Law School Education,” and within a year, she was enrolled at The Widener University School of Law, where she was a member of Phi Delta Phi Honor Society and the school’s law review, The Delaware Journal of Corporate Law. Her original article, “Federal Antitrust Law and Non-profit Hospital Mergers: The Quest for Compatibility,” was published by the Journal is 1990. Kathy was awarded her Juris Doctor, cum laude, in 1990.

LEGAL CAREER:
Kathy has been an attorney with the Lancaster law firm of Barley Snyder for 17 years. She has been a partner of the firm since 1998. She is a member of the firm's Litigation and Health Law Groups, and Chair of the firm's Paralegal Committee. Kathy has served as co-chair of the Trial Law Section of the Lancaster Bar Association, and she also served on the Committee which in 2004 completely revised and update our Local Civil Rules of Court. She is a Member of the Lancaster, Pennsylvania and American Bar Associations. She is also a member of the American Health Lawyers Association. Kathy is also a member of the Pennsylvania Bar Association's Health Law Section and was recently appointed by the PBA to serve on the statewide interdisciplinary Advance Directives Work Group, a group which is working to come up with forms and literature to make Pennsylvania's new Living Wills Law (Act 169) more user-friendly to the general public. Over the years, Kathy has been a frequent speaker on legal issues at the end of life, an has addressed health care providers, attorneys and consumers on living wills, health care power of attorney documents, and out of hospital do-not-resuscitate orders.
