Info | REILLY, John, a Representative from Pennsylvania; born in Abnerville, Indiana County, Pa., February 22, 1836; received home instruction and attended the public schools; entered the service of the Pennsylvania Railroad Co. April 10, 1854; appointed superintendent of transportation April 1, 1865; served until his resignation in 1875, having been elected to Congress; president of the Bells Gap Railroad Co. 1871-1873; president of the board of city commissioners of Altoona in 1872 and 1873; elected as a Democrat to the Forty-fourth Congress (March 4, 1875-March 3, 1877); unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1876 to the Forty-fifth Congress; again superintendent of transportation of the Pennsylvania Railroad Co. and served from 1877 until his resignation in 1885; moved to Philadelphia, Pa., in 1881; interested in various business enterprises; died in Philadelphia, Pa., April 19, 1904; interment in West Laurel Hill Cemetery.
