InfoJanice Kay Hahn

The fabric of Los Angeles County is woven into Janice Hahn’s DNA. The daughter of former County Supervisor Kenny Hahn, renowned for his long tenure of public service, Janice Hahn has followed in her father’s footsteps throughout every step of her career.

Currently the representative for L.A. County’s 4th District on the Board of Supervisors, Janice has dedicated her career to a people-first agenda.

Underscoring her commitment to great neighborhood schools, she previously served as a classroom teacher. From there, Janice was elected as a Member of the Los Angeles Charter Reform Commission, where she worked to give a greater voice to local communities by creating neighborhood councils.

Soon after, Janice was elected to the L.A. City Council and was later elected to Congress, serving from 2011-2016. In Congress, she was known for notably bringing a Small Business Administrator to L.A. County - giving the County access to critical capital that it needed to hire more people and expand.

On the City Council, Janice chaired the Trade, Travel and Tourism Committee, earning a reputation as an expert on port and airport related issues - working on public safety, infrastructure, environmental protection, transportation issues and more. She also spearheaded innovative neighborhood safety strategies, bringing the community and police together to curb gang and gun violence by advancing an anti-gang strategy through early intervention, job training and after-school programs.

In Congress, Janice served on the Small Business Committee, Homeland Security Committee, and was one of the bipartisan founders of the Ports Opportunity, Renewal, Trade, and Security (PORTS) Caucus, which aimed to raise awareness about the critical importance of our nation’s ports. In Washington, D.C., she worked to protect veterans, create more middle class jobs, safeguard healthcare, ensure clean air and water and fund our education system.

During her time on the Board, Janice has focused on delivering critical resources to the communities she represents, and advancing an agenda that prioritizes working families and ensures a strong safety net for L.A. County’s most vulnerable residents. An unrelenting fighter for her constituents, Janice has fought to invest hundreds of millions of dollars in local schools, public safety, infrastructure projects, and more in District 4.

As Supervisor, Janice’s top priority has been confronting our homelessness crisis with the urgency it deserves, including converting motels and hotels into temporary housing and affordable apartments for unhoused residents. She also created LA Found, an innovative program that offers trackable bracelets to families with loved ones who are prone to wandering due to degenerative brain diseases, and partnered with UCLA Health to bring the West Coast’s first Mobile Stroke Unit to L.A. County.

Janice received the Profile in Courage Award from the Los Angeles County Democratic Party and the Martin Luther King Jr. Legacy Award from the South Coast Interfaith Council for leading the successful effort to return Bruce’s Beach to the Bruce family.

L.A. County is Janice's home. It’s where she raised her daughter, Katy, and her two sons, Danny and Mark. Now a grandmother of five beautiful grandchildren McKenna, Brooklyn, Isabela, Josiah, and Luke, Janice works tirelessly every day to build healthier, safer and stronger communities all across L.A. County.
